Nancy Elizabeth Douthitt, age 94 of Joplin, passed away from injuries sustained in a tornado on May 22, 2011

Born September 5, 1916 in Newtonia, MO, she was the daughter of the late Virgil A. Thornberry and Ethel Virginia Hendrickson.

She is a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, St. John's Prestige, and also a former member of Surviving Spouses.

She married Curtis W. Douthitt on January 12, 1937 and together they owned and operated Douthitt Grocery Store on 202 N. Gray in Joplin from 1947-1987.

Curtis preceded her in death on November 27, 1989.

She is survived by one son, Robert (Bob) Douthitt and his wife Jean of Tulsa, OK; one brother, Walter Thornberry of Mt. Vernon, MO; one sister, Lenore Rhodes of Homer, IL; three grandchildren, James, Thomas and Cathleen; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Douthitt, and one sister, Genevieve Robinson.

Interment will be at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
