Suggested edit: Floyd B. Mathias, 78, formerly of Mathias, W.Va., died unexpectedly Friday night at his law office in Mt. Rainier, Md.

Mr. Mathias was born June 12, 1887, at Mathias and was a son of the late Belle and Victoria Basore Mathias.

He was married to the late Mrs. Cora Lee Hawse Mathias, who died in 1929, and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Garrett Mathias.

Also surviving are three sons, Judge Robert B. Mathias of Mt. Rainier, Md., Donald Mathias, of Springfield, Va., and Col. John R. Mathias of Manheim, Germany, four grandchildren, six brothers, Elmer Mathias of Jamestown, N.D., Lee Mathias, of Keyser, W.Va., Paul Mathias, of Baker, W.Va., Nelson Mathias of Tiffin, Ohio, and Wade and Brown Mathias, both of Augusta, W.Va., and a sister, Mrs. Ollie Henderson of Washington, D.C.

Mr. Mathias served 40 years in the Comptroller General's office in Maryland before joining the law firm of Mathias, Mathias, and Dodson at Mt. Rainier, Md.

He had practiced before the Maryland Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was a member of the Prince Georges County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Rainier Methodist Church. The body will be brought to Lost River (W.Va.,) Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday for viewing. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Lost River.
