Obituary:
Mrs. Frances W. Byers, 77, of Alpharetta, died January 1, 2006.

Born in Norcross to Walter and Eva Maloney Weathers, Mrs. Byers was a longtime resident of Alpharetta where she owned and operated the Cotton House Furniture Store in downtown Alpharetta. Known for her sharp mind and keen wit, she promoted and saw business opportunities in area no one else would and was the eternal optimist. She was a visionary in the re-development and preservation of the downtown area restoring the Cotton House and the Oliver building. She received numerous awards for her outstanding service and beautification of the business community and for her involvement in the preservation and encouragement of Alpharetta history and architecture. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Alpharetta and the Downtown Business Association.

Her son, Richard Byers, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Carroll E. Byers; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brian Gallagher; granddaughters, Katie and Emily Gallagher, all of Alpharetta; sister, Gladys Lance of Chattanooga, TN, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. Rev. A.B. Hatfield and Rev. Ray Hewatt officiating. Interment will be in Green lawn Cemetery.
