Richard H. "Dick" Bowersox, 74, of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday morning, May 31, 2011, after being stricken ill suddenly.

Born Feb. 19, 1937, in New Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Joseph Wilbur and Iva Myers Bowersox.

He was a veteran of United States Army.

Mr. Bowersox was employed by Redbank Mills in New Bethlehem as a diesel mechanic and maintenance man for more than 50 years. He also owned and operated a farm.

He was married April 17, 1964, to the former Margaret Ellen Jordan, and she survives.

Mr. Bowersox was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Bethlehem and was devoted to watching over the care and upkeep of the building.

He enjoyed antique tractors, playing games with friends and most recently, computers and eBay.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas R. Bowersox and his wife, Paula, of New Bethlehem and Eric J. Bowersox and his wife, Jamie, of Fairmount City; and three grandchildren, Erica, Rachel and Nathan.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen and Diane Bowersox; and a brother, William Bowersox.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Rupert Funeral Home, 301 Penn St., New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. The Rev. Rocky Hammond, pastor of the First Baptist Church of New Bethlehem, and evangelist Larry Krause will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery on Beautiful Lookout, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.

Memorial contributions may be given in Dick's name to the First Baptist Church of New Bethlehem.
