Crystal Alena Spears Coon was born October 7, 1916 in Panama City, FL. Her parents were Hiram Spears and Mary Melinda King Spears. She had six siblings, Fletcher Spears, Maxwell Spears, Alton Spears, Harley Spears and Alice Spears Scofield, all deceased and one surviving sister, Velma Spears Scofield, of Birmingham, AL. She married Zack Thomas Coon on October 4, 1933 in Defuniak Springs, FL. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. They had 6 children. Mrs. Coon was predeceased by a son, William Thomas Coon, and his wife, Imogene, and a daughter-in--law, Diane. She is survived by children, Martha Rebecca (Alton) Spain, Walden Eugene (Joyce) Coon, Linda Delores (Ronald) Chipman, Jerry Coon and Jack (Brenda) Coon; 10 grandchildren, Calvin Thomas (Karen) Coon, Martha Kathleen Coon, Michael Spain, Tommy Spain, Teresa Roberts-Pitman, Rhonda Lynn Wilkinson-Timpson, Marcus (Carrie) Coon, Casey Marie Coon, Thomas Andrew Coon and William Randall Coon as well as 3 step-grandchildren, Arthur Ivey, Tommy Ivey and Wayne Ivey; 6 great-grandchildren, Christy (Matt) Coon-Jacobs, Zack Thomas Coon, Anthony Timpson, Dalton Barrett, Kaden Thomas Coon, Brienna Coon; 6 step great-grandchildren, Kier Constantino, Toni Constantino, Karen Murray, Kathy Ivey, Robert Ivey and Jahna Ivey; 4 step great-great-grandchildren, Austin Ivey, Shelby Kenney, Kevin John Harris and Brooke Williams. Mrs. Coon was proud of her family from her children to great-great-grandchildren. She was a welder during WWII. Being a mother and homemaker occupied her time after that. A favorite past time was reading, especially her Bible, and playing with her great-grandkids. The Coon family lived in Florala, AL for about 20 years before moving to Green Cove Springs, FL, where her husband worked at the Jacksonville Shipyard until he retired. She lived in Florida until her homegoing on May 29, 2011. The family will receive friends at the Broadus-Raines Chapel Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at North Creek Cemetery in Florala, AL.
