Massachusetts State Trooper Engelhardt lived in a Middleboro rehab facility for the severely brain damaged for the last eight years. She has been unable to walk, talk, feed herself, or communicate since a then 18-year-old drunken driver, plowed his father's Volvo into her cruiser — its blue lights flashing — at nearly 100 miles per hour on June 26, 2003.
She passed away on June 1, 2011. She was 58 years old.

She graduated from the Mass State Police Academy in 1981.
