Jane Murdoch Watkins was his granddaughter. The one story she remember the most about her grandfather was that he was bald, but every saturday he would pay her to wash his "hair" on the front porch of his house. Money was hard to come by and if children were given any money it usually was for doing a job. I guess he thought he was able to give her money for a job well done. She often laughted about it, when she would retell the story to us.
