Vivian Marie Mitchell Merrill, 84, passed away peacefully Dec. 18 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.

A devoted wife and mother, she will be missed by all those who loved her.

Vivian was born in Huntingburg, Ind., on Jan. 15, 1925. She was the second of three children born to Claude and Marie Mitchell. At a young age, her family relocated to Cheyenne where Vivian met, then later married her high-school sweetheart, Robert A. Merrill on Dec. 22, 1942.

As many women did during this period, Vivian worked as part of the World War II war support effort for Boeing Aircraft Corporation as a bomber instrument technician, supporting both her country and her new husband, Robert, who served in the European Theater as a tailgunner on a B-17 bomber crew. Upon Robert's return at the end of World War II, the couple built a home together east of Cheyenne, where they raised their family.

Vivian devoted her life to her husband and the rearing of her children. She guided her family through life with seemingly endless energy, ensuring her children were raised with high moral values and the ethics that would see them all become successful and effective, responsible parents of their own families.

Vivian is survived by her five children (and spouses), Kathleen (Pete) Molitor of Franktown, Colo., Douglas (Judy) Merrill of Cheyenne, Stephen (Jovita) Merrill of Longmont, Colo., Robert (Marcy) Merrill of North Cove, Wash., and Gail Fuller of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister, Virginia Peters of Cheyenne; brother, Wayne (Ramona) Mitchell of Cheyenne; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Ray and Marie Bovee of Cheyenne; and son-in-law, Orville Fuller.
