Thomas Douglas "Doug" Smith of Terrell, Texas, passed quietly away surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the age of 77. Doug was born to the late Jewel H. and Dessie Paulene (Chenault) Smith on September 4, 1933 in Mabank, Texas. Doug served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He would return to Texas and married Alberta Killian, the love of his life, on his birthday, September 4,1966.

Doug was a butcher by trade and a natural good cook. Doug was always active and moving. He loved gardening, working with horses, cooking, tinkering, or repairing something. He was proud of the things he accomplished with his hands. Doug also loved people. He served for several years as a deacon in the Rockwall & Brin Church of Christ in Terrell; as well as a volunteer for the church's Share Center. But Doug's passion was his family. He got no greater pleasure and joy than when he was with his family.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Paulene Smith; two brothers, Donny Eugene Smith and Jack Smith. Those remaining to celebrate his life include his beloved wife of 44 years, Alberta Killian Smith; son, Ronald Lee Rinks and his wife Betty Jo of Kaufman; daughter Belinda Kay Wright and her husband Charlie of Wills Point; grandsons, Kris Rinks and his wife Lacy of Terrell, and Joseph Rinks also of Terrell; granddaughters, Amber Huff of Terrell, Rebecca Ketterman and her husband Josh of Kaufman, Callie Rinks of Terrell, Tina Oden and her husband Zane of Terrell, Charla Kay Wright and Kelle-Anne Wright, both of Wills Point; great-grandchildren, Jamielyn Rinks and Caitlynn Rinks Morgan of Terrell; great-grandson, Weston Ketterman of Kaufman and the newest addition to the family, his namesake, Kiptyn Douglas "Dougie" Rinks of Terrell, Texas.

An evening of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas. A funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rockwall & Brin Church of Christ in Terrell, Texas. Interment will immediately follow the service at Oakland Memorial Park. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.andersonclaytonbros.com.
