Sally Best Midgett, 64, of Stumpy Point, passed away early Thursday morning, September 2, 2010 at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

Sally was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 13, 1945 to the late Woodrow W. Best and the late Edith Credle Best. She was also predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Robert D. "Bobby" Midgett, who passed away on August 5, 2010.

She is survived by a son, Robert B. Midgett and wife Naomi, a daughter, Toni J. Midgett and husband, Johnny, a son, Matthew B. Midgett, all of Stumpy Point, and a brother, Billy B. Best of Point Harbor, NC. She is also survived by her honorary sister, Pam Creef and husband Robert, her sister in law, Wanda M. Best and husband Roger, her brother in law, John C. Midgett and wife Cookie, all of Stumpy Point.

Sally's grandchildren were the lights of her life. Adam, Daniel, Nathan, Bailie, Janie, and Jaben loved their Grandmama (Nanny) very much and were blessed enough to live so close that they could be with her every day.

Sally was a licensed Cosmetologist before she married her childhood sweetheart and best friend when she gladly became a full time wife and mother. Her main goal in life was to make sure her family was happy. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her pineapple cakes and cinnamon candy.

Sally fought a long, hard battle with Breast Cancer and COPD. However, her greatest battle was the broken heart she suffered at the loss of her husband and best friend less than a month before. She will always be remembered for her spunkiness, her hilarious stories, and her complete honesty. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Bayview Chapel in Stumpy Point with the Rev. John DeCarmo and Rev. Edwin Basnight officiating. Twiford Funeral Homes' Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC is assisting the family with arrangements.
