S/Sgt Johnson was a gunner on B-24J #42-73064, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Squadron. The plane crashed taking off from Pandaveswar airbase in India on a bombing mission, and all aboard were killed.
He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
