Jesse Lee Phillips, 76, of Phillips Road, Philippi, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born October 31, 1937, at Philippi, a son of the late Lonnie Burton and Thelma Marie (Cruikshank) Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, the former Vesta Alberta "June" Bussey; three daughters, Margaret Marie Kisamore, Harrisonburg, Va., Cathern Kay Coontz and husband, Raymond, Lost City, Debra Sue Morris and husband, Kevin, Hurricane; two sons, Burton Phillips and Wilbert Lee Phillips and wife, Stephanie, all of Philippi; two brothers, William Phillips, Philippi; Dale Phillips, Moatsville; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren and two step-great great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, John Matthew Phillips; by one grandson, Matthew Waitman Phillips and by his step-father, Wilbert Waitman Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a retired truck driver, transporting coal for Braham Trucking, Benson Trucking and Circle M Trucking. He was a member of and had served as pastor of the Calvary Mission Church in Belington. He was an avid hunter and fisherman until declining health prevented it. He enjoyed singing, reading his Bible, doing word search puzzles and playing with his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. Pastor Wayne D. Freeman will officiate and interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Thursday.
