Artie was born to Thekla Reyher and George "Pop" Schillinger. During W.W. II he served in the Army Air Force as a Chaplain's assistant and was sent to California. Later on he would settle in Carmichael, buying land and building houses, serving as architect and contractor. He was always kidding around and had started a music studio, Pin Point Music. Artie could play the piano, accordion, violin, guitar, vibraphone and assorted other musical instruments. He wrote songs and recorded demo records for people starting in the music industry. Another interest included developing a few inventions that he patented, such as for the retractable dog leash that is so popular now. Once at a Halloween party he dressed as Charlie Chaplin's The Little Tramp, and was photographed in costume in the local newspaper. Artie was a natty dresser and people often mistook him for the women's dress designer Oleg Cassini. This amused him no end. Artie was a kind man. His widow, Maude A. Baldwin Schillinger had his favorite quote by Emerson inscribed on his tombstone.
