John Rigg was a native of Washington/Greene County, Pennsylvania. He traveled to Guernsey County, Ohio where he met and married Hannah Robinson in 1833, daughter of William Robinson. John Rigg then moved his family to Jefferson County, Iowa in 1854 where his brother, Thomas Rigg lived. Shortly there after he secured an eighty acre tract of land in Marion County, Iowa, moved his family along with brother, Thomas to their new cabin and remained in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa until his death.
