Dwight Gerald Preston was the oldest child of Clyde and Leola Benjamin Preston of Jacksonville, Illinois. On 4 April 1948 in Petesrburg, Menard County, Illinois for his first of four marriages he married Jacqualine Maxine Clark at the Old Opera House on roller skates; whick upset alot of the family but love prevailed for this moment. They were seaparted at the time of his first wife dying in a car crash. This marriage left one child David Lee who remained with Jacqualine's parents in Petersburg, Illinois. Dwight's second marriage was to Joan Pond in Jackcsonville, Morgan County, Illinois this marriage the only child born died at birth, Deborah Kay. This marriage did not last . Dwight served in the US Army from 4 Dec 1953 to 27 November 1955 serving in the Special Services being attached from 4th Army Corpral or Spc. 2nd Class when discharged.

To this marriage two children where born Gerald Dennis and Sheryl Kay. But on the 8th of July 1992 his dear and loving wife Ruth succombe to breast cancer at the Chicago Hospital of Cancer in Chicago, Illinois. On the 19th March 1994 Dwight married for a forth time Beverly Jean Johnson in Mendota, LaSalle County, Illinois. This marriage ended with Dwight's death at the Hinds VA Hospital in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois on 18 October 2006.
