Age 77, of Elmira, NY, died November 21, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at the Veteran's Affairs Hospice Unit in Hampton, VA. Jim was born July 2, 1931 in Corning, NY, a son of the late LeRoy BeCraft and Florence Spaulding. He was also predeceased by his sister, June Farrand; and brother, Curtis Becraft. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Martha McCallum BeCraft; daughters, Cynthia BeCraft of Hampton, VA and Linda BeCraft of Virginia Beach, VA; and most cherished grandson, Jonathan James BeCraft of Richmond, VA. Jim is also survived by his dear sister, Betty Crozier of Horseheads, NY, sister-in-law, Donna Padgett; and brother-in-law, William Padgett of Lawrenceville, PA. Jim had many loved nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim served in the Korean War and later owned and operated a gas station, was a partner in Western Auto, and owned and rented properties. Jim retired from JC Penney as a salesman. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp, hunt and fish. He was happiest in front of a campfire with family and friends. Jim was the best husband, father, and grandfather a person could ever ask for, and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. The family would like to thank their family and friends for all the love and support they have given. The family is also very grateful to the Veteran's Affair's Hospice Unit in Hampton, VA, where Jim and his family received the very best of care and support. Family and friends are invited to call at Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main Street, Horseheads, on Saturday, December 13, 2008, from 11-1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours there at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Coopers Plains Cemetery, Coopers Plains, NY with Full Military Honors provided.
