From Ontario County Journal 25 March 1892

Naples, N. Y. - David Peck, an old business man of the town, and his brother, Isaac Peck, were lying dead at one time this week. The former had been prostrate for many months with paralysis; on Sunday evening he died. His brother, Isaac, younger, was with him at his death but that night he too was stricken with paralysis and knew nothing more. His death was on Wednesday morning. The funeral of David Peck was held on Wednesday afternoon. He had been in the jewelry business for 50 years and was an honest, industrious citizen. He was nearly 77 years old. He leaves four sons and a widow. Isaac leaves one son. So far the father and mother of these two sons have died of paralysis. There are four brothers living about here, of whom John Peck is best known.

After a lingering illness, David Peck departed this life on Sunday evening, March 20, at tbe good age of 76 years and 9 months.

This death removes another of tbe old business men of I the town, one who by fifty years of patient, untiring industry and strict integrity had won for himselfa place and a reputation among the first.

Mr. Peck was bom in Orange county in 1815. He came to Naples in 1840. He was then a widower with one son He began business in what is now the Lincoln Block when it stood across the street near the old post office, dealing in groceries and working at the bench, always busy. He next removed to thshop now occupied by 3 R Sutton and

established himself as a skillful jeweler.

In 1852 he built the shop since occupied by him and opened up a well stocked jewelry store, which has been maintained ever since. Here he could always be found ready to do any work in his line conscientiously, and well, and obliging as a salesman. He was fond of novelties of merit, and his shop always contained something attractive which was

not for sale, bat for the pleasure of his customers. He was the first, we think, to bring on a fine music box, which was a novelty and a constant delight to the town people at that time. He was exceptionally prompt to meet all his obligations, not waiting to be sought out, but rather seeking his creditors, for he was never happy when he owed even a

small sum. He was always interested in the moral questions of the day, and

especially* wars* advocate of umper-11 is about two years since he began to

fall, but came daily to his store until stricken with paralysis aboat a year sgo.

For the last few months he had been almost helpless and a great sufferer
