Phillip Egger, a waggoner, was born in St. Gallen city, Switzerland, the son of Jacob Egger and Anna Bleichenbacher. He was the husband of Franziska Gschwend (deceased in Switzerland) and Barbara Hoffman, and the father of Jacob, William, August, Carolina Rudolph and Charles. Phillip, his sons William and Jacob, his sister Franziska Egger Oswald, and his nephew John Jacob Egger all emigrated to Centralia, IL between 1853 and 1864 and were among the original settlers and founders of the city.
