Wilma Alberta Son, 86, formerly of Fort Smith, died June 4, 2011 in Tulsa. She was born March 25, 1925 in Abbot, N.M., to William and Blanche Berry. Following her mother's death, she was raised by her paternal grandparents in Amarillo, Texas, where she graduated with honors from Amarillo High School at the age of 16 and received her associate's degree in business from the local junior college by her 18th birthday. She married Clarence F. Son in 1943 and celebrated 53 years of marriage. They resided in Temple, Texas, and later in Fort Smith. Mr. Son worked for Bandy Laboratories and the optical industry, while Wilma was the secretary to the Texas state congressman for 11 years. She was a life member of the Arkansas State PTA Association, president of the Sparks Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, where she was honored in recognition of volunteering 2,000 hours, president of the Children's Service League, and was recognized in 1976 in the "Who's Who Among Southern Women." She was a member of the West-Ark Church of Christ and was active in children's Sunday school education at College Terrace. She and her husband were owner/operators of Son Optical in both Fort Smith and Van Buren.

Ms. Son was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband: Clarence F. Son.
She is survived by 1 son: Charles M. Son, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1 grandson: Naval Petty Officer Barndon A. Son, of San Diego, California; other relatives; and a host of dear friends.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Ms. Son was laid to rest, with private burial, at the U.S. National Cemetery, all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were: Glen Gilley Jr., Tommy Beard, Jack Alexander, Don Neal, Don Niesler, and Dr. Bob Fisher.
Honorary pallbearers were: Glen Gilley Sr., Richard Brannum, and Jim Pratt.
