Rose Mary attended Saint Mary's school in Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria High School-Class of 1941.She also graduated as a Junior Engineer in 1943 from the Engineering School in Waukegan, Illinois facilitated by Johns-Manville Corp. formerly of Alexandria. She married Don Lockwood on December 23, 1944. Rose Mary first developed an interest in local politics as a young girl while watching the political rallies that her parents held in their home. She entered county government service in 1951 and served continually for 35 years until 1986 in the following positions; Madison County Deputy Clerk 1951-1957 for County Clerk Joseph Armington, Madison County Court Reporter 1958-1978 for Judge Carl T. Smith and Madison County Clerk 1979-1986. She was also particularly honored to have worked on President Kennedy's Madison County Campaign in 1962. She has been precinct vice chairman, township vice chairperson, township chairperson, Madison County vice-chairperson and served as secretary for 8 years of the Madison County 5th District Democratic Central Committee. She has also served as a board member of the Madison County Mental Health Association and chairperson for the Monroe Township Heart Fund. On the local level, Rose Mary has managed the Alexandria Water and Sewage Department and was instrumental in developing and implementing Alexandria first recycling program. She was a member of the Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary and the Church of Saint Mary at Alexandria.
