John L. Burleigh, aged 88, died Sunday afternoon at the Moses Taylor hospital, Scranton, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Burleigh, the son of George and Rachel Burleigh, was born in South Canaan, Pa., in 1853. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Gravity Company until 1885, when he moved to Bradford county, where he was engaged in the lumber business until his retirement. For the past twenty years, he has made his home with his sons, C. W. Burleigh of Dunmore, and George B. Burleigh of Ulster. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. B. D. Stephenson of Lake Wesauking and Mrs. C. E. Bartlow of New Albany, George and Edward of Ulster, and Charles, Bert and John of Scranton. Twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock on Wednesday at Powell and burial will be made in the family plot in Powell cemetery.
