Served in the 13th Battalion
of Light Artillery, Lathams
Battery. Was the Sgt Major.
Fought in many battles in the Army
of Northern Virginia such as Cedar
Mountain, 2nd Manassas, Fred-
ericksburg, Gettysburg where the
battery was in action the 3 days
of the battle, Spotsylvania CH,
2nd Cold Harbor(Grant's Slaughter
of about 5,000 Union troops), the
Petersburg Battles and the
surrender at Appomattox CH. He
became a Pharmarcist after the
war and moved from New Bern &
opened a pharmacy in Wilmington.
He was President of the the State
Pharmaceutical Association from
1880 til 1884. In 1875 he married
Frances Iredell Meares daughter
of Thomas D. Meares of Wilmington
(another civil warrior to be
listed on find a grave).
