John was a son of Adam MENTEN and Marie (_______) MENTEN.

He married Carrie PAFF in 1886 at Kasota, Le Sueur County, Minnesota. They were parents of 7 children.

Former Resident Dies in California

John P. MENTEN, one of the early settlers of this vicinity passed away at the age of seventy-five years February 28, 1938 in a Sacramento, Calif., hospital. He was the youngest son of Adam and Marie Sorger MENTEN, who settled in this county in 1856. For several years the deceased ran a blacksmith shop in Kasota, and while there in 1886 was united in marriage to Miss Carrie PAFF of Rapidan. To this union seven children were born. His wife preceeded him in death about twenty-one years ago. In 1888 he moved to Lake Crystal, where he ran a blacksmith shop for many years. In 1925 owing to poor health he moved to California.

Mrs. Elizabeth 'Bessie' MENTEN WOLF,
Mrs. Mildred MENTEN NOVOTNY,
Mrs. Inez MENTEN MOSHER and
Miss Ruth MENTEN all of California.
Harry MENTEN of Minneapolis,
Dan MENTEN of Ames, Ia.
A sister, Mrs. Barbara EASTWOOD of this city,
and five grandchildren. After the services in California the remains will be cremated and sent to Lake Crystal to be placed in the grave of his wife.
