Harvey Bennett, 78, a lifelong resident of Soldiers Grove and vicinity, died Saturday at his home after an illness of three years. He was born on a farm about 4 miles west of Soldiers Grove, and on June 17, 1888 was married at Mt Sterling, to Lovica Montgomery, also of Soldiers Grove.
A blacksmith by trade, Mr Bennett worked at both Soldiers Grove and Gays Mills and did some farming as well.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs A Rosemeyer, Soldiers Grove; Mrs Jerry Brewer and Mrs George Moore, both of Madison, and Mrs Mabel Colburn, Woodstock, Ill.; three sons, Edward and Charley, both of Beloit; and Robert, Soldiers Grove; a brother Albert of Alberta, Canada; a sister, Mrs DeEtte Mulligan, Bellingham, Wash.; 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Chitwood funeral home. The Rev Lester J Trout, Viroqua, will officiate and burial will be at the Yankeetown cemetery.
