John's father ran a ferry across the Red River just south of Thackerville, Oklahoma. He is buried in Brown Springs Cemetery there. The old cemetery sits on a hill just above the river. It has been neglected and a lot of the markers are gone. There are records that state that J.H. Bivins was buried there in December of 1890 and T.H. Bivins was buried there in December of 1880. We are not sure which one, if either, is John's father.
