James Henry Scritchfield, 83, of Hyndman Road, formerly of Linden Street, Cumberland, Md., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Cooks Mills, a son of the late Roy W. and Myrtle (Welsh) Scritchfield.

On May 29, 1938, he maried the former Ada Marie Wright.

She survives, along with a son, Ronald H., married to the former Charlene Leydig, Hyndman, sisters Mildred Mason, Cooks Mills, and Colleen, married to Eugene Hite, Hyndman; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Hartung, and two brothers.

Mr. Scritchfield was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad machinist.

Funeral service: 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, with the Rev. Fay E. Leydig officiating. Burial in Cooks Mills Cemetery.
