Emma married Ely DeTienne on July 4, 1885 at the Presbyterian Church in Wausau. Exactly 10 years later her sister Emily married Ely's older brother John in Wausau. Independence day was then considered a lucky day to marry.
They had two known children. Mabel Ella (1886-1951) married Frederick Symonds. She and Frederick are also buried in Riverside Cemetery. Son Ervin Ely (1891-?) was living in Winterhaven, Florida when Emma died in 1956. Both Mabel and Ervin were born in Wausau.
By April 1910 Ely and Emma had moved to Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa. Some of Ely's siblings and cousins had moved to farms not far away in Martin County, Minnesota. Ely was one of few who chose small city life over farming. He and Emma remained in Charles City for the rest of their lives. Ely worked as a glazier and carpenter.
Emma was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charles City. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.
Emma succumbed to a stroke at the age of 87, and had spent some amount of time prior at the Christy Nursing Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her obituary is published in the March 27, 1956 edition of the "Mason City Globe Gazette."
