Heber Springs, Ark. — Dorothy Lee Peel Cannon of Drasco, Arkansas passed away at her daughter's home at Ida on Monday June 6, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Almond, Arkansas on July 13, 1928, she was the eleventh child of Samuel A. and Margaret Linne Knight Peel. Mrs. Cannon married Cloyce R. Cannon on July 27, 1946. A lifetime resident of the Drasco-Concord area, Mrs. Cannon was a housewife and assisted her husband on this farm raising cattle and broilers.
Dorothy was a dedicated Christian woman who loved her family, her community, and being at home on her farm in Drasco. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the New Bethel Church at Wolf Bayou and in recent years attended the Drasco General Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years Cloyce who died on June 14, 2006 and her son Robert who died on January 14, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers Willie Peel, Albert Peel, Bernard Peel, Herbert Peel, Lloyd Peel, Leonard Peel, and Raymond Peel, four sisters Monnie Mannon, Pearl Mannon, Myrtle Howell and Jewel Dean Peel.
She is survived by her daughter Nita Jean Altom and husband Vernon of Ida, one sister Eval Lee Curtis of Orange, California, a granddaughter Dr. Melissa Altom and her husband Glenn Lamb of Aurora, Missouri, a grandson Ashley Altom, and wife Reeanna of Conway, Arkansas, two great-grandsons Noah Lamb and Hunter Lamb and one great-granddaughter Cora Beth Altom, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be Friday June 10, 2011 from 6-8 pm at Family Funeral Service.
Funeral services will Saturday June 11, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Drasco General Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norman Cannon, Noland Cannon, Ashley Altom, Glenn Lamb, Rick Reed, Alan Cannon, Mark Byrd, Justin Byrd.
