Deceased Name: Frank Carl Killian
Frank Carl Killian, a native of Pittsburgh and a resident of Mobile, died at a local hospital Saturday. He was 87.
Killian worked in a steel mill in Ambridge, Pa., before attending the University of Alabama, where he played football, completed his bachelor's degree, and earned a master of arts as well.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a field artilleryman at Iwo Jima and in the post-war occupation of Japan.
He was employed as a science teacher for Mobile County Schools, teaching at Azalea Road Middle School, Vigor High School, where he also coached football, Sidney Phillips High School, and Alba High School.
Killian attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where he served as president of the Holy Name Society, and St. Pius X Catholic Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Dohrman of Huntsville and Ann Killian of Mobile; a son, Walter Killian of Tillman's Corner; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be this afternoon from 5 to 8, with a wake service at 6 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
