Mrs. Adelaide Gowen, age 79, died early Friday in a local care home. She had been ill for several months. She grew up in North Loup where she graduated from North Loup High School. She attended the University of Nebraska. In 1947 she moved to Lincoln where she was a housemother for Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. In 1965 she moved to Aurora. Interment in North Loup Cemetery.

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 25, 1978 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup, Nebraska. Interment was held in the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Adelaide Gowen

Adelaide Gowen, was born December 19, 1898 at North Loup, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Edmund and Rena Holms Davis. Her death occurred at Aurora, Nebraska, following several weeks of failing health, on September 22, 1978, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Most of her lifetime was spent in the vicinity of North Loup. She received her education in the public schools of that vicinity and following her graduation from North Loup High School, she attended the University of Nebraska.

On June 11, 1923, she was united in marriage to George Gowen at North Loup. They resided in that vicinity. Her husband preceded her in death on June 29, 1945. In 1947 she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was employed for a short time at Miller and Paine Department Store, and for several years she served as house mother for the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity until her retirement in 1965, at which time she moved to Aurora and has since made her home here.

Mrs. Gowen was an active member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup, while residing in that vicinity. Since residing in Aurora, she had attended the Federated Church.

She was also preceded in death by a seven year old son, William Edward Gowen, her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Williams and Nell Davis.

Her survivors include one son, Richard Gowen of Aurora; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Fuehring of Clovis, New Mexico; one sister, Merle Davis of North Loup, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren and other relatives and many close friends.
