Gene was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Phillipines.
He married Nannie Lou Klein on June 24, 1928 in Williamsburg, KY and they had two children: Elizabeth Jean Hatcher, a still-born on December 20, 1938; and James Wallace Hatcher.
He was a member of the Cumberland Avenue Church of God.
He worked as a cook for the Louisville and Nashville [L&N] Railroad until he retired.

He was a special person in my life although I knew him only for a short time.
