Maj. G. S. Blodgett was Garner Spring Blodgett b. 10 Nov 1817 in Rochester, Windsor, Vermont, USA to the Rev. Luther Spencer and Mary (Jefferson) Blodgett. He died 16 Apr 1909 in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont

The funeral of the late Major Gardner S. Blodgett was held from the home on South Winooski avenue Sunday, Rev. J. E. Goodrich officiated assisted by Rev. E. G. Guthrie. The members of the Stannard Post, G. A. R., attended the funeral in a body. The honorary bearers were B. J. Derby. C. D. Williams and H. O. Wheeler, representing the Loyal Legion; H. W Allen, Andrew McGaffey and William Smith, representing the G. A. R.; C. D. Darling, Clarence Smith, William Wood and Robert Noble, representing the Sons of and[sic] American Revolution, and M. G. Clark, D. A. Loomis, S. L. Platka and M. C. Grandy, representing Washington Lodge, F. & A. M. The body bearers were four policemen. Burial was in Green Mountain cemetery and taps were sounded by G. D. Sherman.
