Obituary, The Oklahoman, September 3, 1997
James D. 'Bucky' Reed died Sunday, August 31, 1997, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, following a valiant battle with cancer. Bucky was born January 19, 1934, in Boswell, Oklahoma. In 1952, he graduated from Classen High School and then attended Cameron Junior College and Oklahoma City University.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons, Bobby and Thomas; 3 grandchildren, Madison, Carter and Cutter Reed; brother-in-law, Robert Pomeroy and his wife, Mary; mother-in-law, Helen Dewey; and a host of loving friends.

Bucky and Beverly were married almost 40 years. In the late '50s, Bucky's first business enterprise was the Linger Lounge and Linger, Too. Later, he co-owned Kip's Big Boy and Roy Rogers restaurants in Oklahoma and Kansas, Pizza Planets, Crockett's Smokehouses, and Rex Chicken. He served two years military service during the Korean Conflict. Buck shared a love for flying, boating, snow-skiing, tennis, fishing, cooking, and his friends. Happiness for Buck was a cool, gentle breeze blowing across the fantail of his yacht, The Linger Lounge, as he drew a shut-out hand of dominoes. He had a sense of loyalty and sensitivity to his friends, be they man or beast. When his friends suffered so did Buck. He was there for us in good times and bad, ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with us, no matter what the battle was. There was no luckier animal on the planet than a dog that had Bucky as his master. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 1:00 p.m., at Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Chapel. Father John Metzinger will officiate. Interment will be at Rose Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ the King Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
