Have very limited knowledge of my 2xGrandfather, Lemuel Allred. He was a Confederate Soldier, joining the 29th Alabama Infantry in September of 1861. He was captured near Nashville Tennessee “after being knocked down by a shell” in December 1864. After a short stay in a Military Prison in Louisville Kentucky he was sent to Camp Douglas and stayed until released June 1865. Due to conditions at Camp Douglas, near Chicago, it earned the nickname “Eighty Acres of Hell”.
