US Congressman. Served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II (1939-1945). Elected to represent Arizona's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1961 to 1991. Also served as a Candidate for the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States in 1976. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996.
