O.F. WINKLER DIES AT HOME IN SULPHUR

Funeral services were conducted in Sulphur Wed. of last week for Oscar F. Winkler, well-known former Weatherford resident, who died at his home there Mon., April 17.

He was 67 years old and had been in poor health for the past 12 years.

Winkler lived in Weatherford for some 20 years, having come here with his family while the town was still young. He moved to Sulphur in 1927. During his residence here he was active in civic affairs and was a member of the congregational church, the Modern Woodmen and the Odd Fellows lodges.

For the past 11 years, he had operated a news stands in Sulphur and had a wide acquaintance there.

He was recently made an honorary colonel on the governor's staff while Lieutenant Governor James E. Berry was acting governor.

Last rites were held at the Methodist church in Sulphur with Rev. J.C. Harris, pastor, officiating. Burial was at Sulphur.

Winkler is survived by his wife, a son, Royden Winkler, a daughter, Mrs. Glyndon Eloise Janzen and two grandchildren. Carlyn Eloise and Dulce Elayne Janzen, who made their home with their grandparents. Two brothers, Joseph M. Winkler, Alberta, Canada; and Ben H. Winkler, San Diego, Calif., also survive him.

Last rites were held Wed. afternoon at 4:30 at the First Methodist church for Oscar F. Winkler, 67, who died at his home here Mon. afternoon. Mr. Winkler was born in Straussburg, Ill., Feb. 1, 1872. As a small child he moved with his parents to Fannin county, Tex., where he lived in the addition that became known as the Winkler Hills, 16 miles north of Bonham. After the death of his father, (1888) he moved with his mother to Missouri. On Oct. 5, 1896, he was married to Florence Walker. The couple continued to live in Missouri for several years and then moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where the family resided until 1927, when it came to Sulphur. Mr. Winkler was a member of Woodmen and of the IOOF.

Since the family came to Sulphur, Mr. Winkler had not been well, but while the home was in Weatherford, he was in good health and an active worker in all civic enterprises. Mr. Winkler had operated the newsstand in the Artesian hotel for the past 11 years and leaves a host of acquaintances over the state and many friends to mourn his death. Several months ago he was made a colonel on the governor's staff when James E. Berry, lieutenant governor, was acting governor, an honorary position given him through his friends.

Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Florence Walker Winkler, a son, Royden Winkler; a daughter, Mrs. Glydnon Eloise Janzen, and Mrs. Janzen's two children, Carlynn Eloise and Dulce Elayne Janzen, grandchildren of the Winklers, who have made their home with them for several years. Other survivors are two brothers, Joseph M. Winkler, Alberta, Canada, and Ben H. Winkler, San Diego, Calif.

Relatives of the family who were expected to arrive for the funeral were Mrs. Harry C. Knowles, sister of Mrs. Winkler, and her husband and son, Weldon H. Knowles, Corpus Christi; and another sister of Mrs. Winkler, Mrs. A. Kostecka, and Mr. Kostecka of Hale, Iowa.

Interment was in Oak Lawn with the Dunn Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
