Ginger was a Humane Society "57 Heinz" dog adopted in 1983 at about ten weeks old. The Humane Society was not going to allow the adoption because Don and Sue Morrison were both school teachers. They were afraid we would keep her in a pen most of the time. They even came out to check on her twice. A good thing I guess. Ginger bonded most closely to Sue Morrison but responded well to Don also. She was an amazingly good dog! She would lay on the floor and let Sue clean her ears and clip her toe nails with no fuss at all. Suspicious of strangers, she warmed to them quickly when she observed how Don & Sue treated guests to their home. She did not, however care for little children. We believe it was because they were at eye level with her.
Always loved to play "ball." She slowed down in her later years, and it became obvious that she needed to be "put down" to end her suffering. Stangely enough, at the vet's, she seemed to know what was going to happen. She came to each person in the room (Don, Sue, and Sue's mother Lillian)put her head in their lap to be petted, then went to the next person. She then layed down on the blanket the vet had had placed on the floor for her and waited. A very hard and difficult time for everyone, but what was best for Ginger. She was cremated individually, and her cremains are buried by the west stone wall at Don & Sue's home in Monee. The brass plate reads "Ginger 1983 - 1999."
Sixteen years old - but actually 112 in dog years.
