Caroline R. Baird, 96, of La Salle left us to visit the Lord at 10:21 a.m. Oct. 9, 2011, in Heritage Manor, La Salle.
A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, La Salle. The Rev. Robert Rayson will officiate. Burial will be at St. Vincent's Cemetery, La Salle.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday in Burgess Funeral Home, La Salle.
Caroline was born March 24, 1915, in La Salle to the late Adam and Monica (Hess) Kotowski. She married Howard "Red" Baird in October 1936 in St. Hyacinth Church, La Salle.
As a businesswoman, she operated the concession stand at Matthiessen Park in the late 1970s and was famous for barbecue sandwiches.
The hobbies she enjoyed were crafts and knitting. She also loved animals, especially her German shepherd, Betsy, as well as a long love for many cats.
She was member of St. Patrick Church, Mothers Club of St. Hyacinth's and Harmonia Club.
Survivors are two daughters, Susan (James) Burkiewicz of Peru and Linda (Richard) Bjork of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Chris and Jeff Burkiewicz; and three great-grandchildren, Emilie, Samantha and Mollie Burkiewicz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Monica Mounts, and one in infancy; and three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Florian Kotowski.
