Zachary David Burns, 23, of Roanoke, was taken to a better place alongside the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Zach was a kind-hearted and loving son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend. He was an Eagle Scout, 2006 graduate of Roanoke Catholic School, and a student at West Virginia University. Scouting and the outdoors were just a few of the many things that Zach loved doing. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dave and Charlotte Burns; and cousins, Samuel and Ricky. Zach is survived by his parents, Dave and Donna Burns; his sisters, Mary and Ali Burns; grandmother, Barbara Caruso; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Miller officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel with a Wake to be held at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made in Zach's name to the Boy Scouts of America, Blue Ridge Mountains Council, P.O. Box 7606, Roanoke, VA 24019. Arrangements by Oakey's East Chapel, 540-977-3909.

On June 12, 2011 Charlotte and Dave Burns' grandson, Zachary David Burns was killed in a car accident at mile marker 22 I81 Virginia. Zach was the 11th grandchild and was 23 years old. He was greatly loved by his grandparents and family.
