Served as Sergeant, Company H, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry during the Civil War. Enlisted on September 11, 1862 as Private. Discharged by Special Order from A.G.O. on July 10, 1865 at Cumberland, Maryland.


Married Caroline Ashbaugh on August 26, 1862 in Appollo, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.


Filed for an invalid pension on August 26, 1891, application number 1,050,810, certificate 940,735.


Obituary:

Isiah Klingensmith, aged 87, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. F. Smith, of Slippery Rock township, at 5:50 a.m. yesterday, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church, Butler, at 2 0-clock Monday afternoon. Internment will be in the North Cemetery.


He was a member of the First Baptist Church of this city, and of the Union Veteran Legion, No. 45. During the Civil War he enlisted with Company H, Eighteenth Pennsylvania Cavalry (163rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment), at Pittsburgh September 17, 1862 for three years, He was honorably discharged from the service at the close of the war on July 10, 1865.


Surviving are the following children: Mrs. J. W. Gray, Bakersfield, Cal.; Mrs. Della Oliver, Butler, Mrs. C. F. Smith, Mrs. John Stevenson, Judson A. Klingensmith, Butler, and Isiah Cloyd Klingensmith, Butler R.D.
