Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Howard L. Kennedy, 62 year old native of Byron township. Mr. Kennedy died in Rockford Memorial Hospital at 2 p.m. Saturday.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carrie S. Leary; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Woods, Byron; two sons, Robert Kennedy, Rockford, and H. Leary Kennedy, Byron; three grandchildren, Linda and Steven, children of Mrs. Woods, and Vicki, daughter of Robert Kennedy; and a brother, Walter Kennedy, Rockford.

Mr. Kennedy would have been 63 yesterday as he was born on a farm north of Byron in the Middle Creek area on April 11, 1894. He was baptized at the Middle Creek Presbyterian church. As a small boy, he moved to Byron with his mother and brother and has made Byron his residence since that time.

He was the son of Harry and Margaret Leonard Kennedy. He was married May 26, 1920 in Oregon after returning from a tour of duty with the army during World War I. While in the service he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Kennedy and his wife have been active members of the American Legion and American Legion auxiliary. He is a former member of the Byron school board. He was a graduate of the Byron grade and high schools.

Mr. Kennedy has been employed by the Barber-Colman Company, Rockford, for a number of years.

He was buried in the Byron Catholic cemetery. The Philip Cafagna Post, Byron, honored Mr. Kennedy with a Legion burial. Arrangements were completed in the Bakener-Morrison funeral home, Byron.

NOTES: Howard was in the hospital to have an operation to remove a portion of his stomach. Howard developed a blood clot after the operation and passed as a result.
