Wilma Edith Trewhitt Dalquist-Myers, daughter of Lloyd Crary Trewhitt and Mabel Gray, was born in Hanford, California on April 19, 1911. She was the oldest of four children. A longtime resident of San Pedro (since 1941), she died on June 6, 2008.

Marriage

1. To Lenard Dahlquist

In 1932 (widowed in 1943)

2. To Captain Gilbert Barlow Myers

In 1962 (widowed in 1985)

Career

Founder of Dahlquist Pre-School, which operated for 66 years (1944-2010).

Wilma and her first husband, Lenard Dahlquist, moved with their two children to San Pedro in 1941 when Lenard became the Executive Director of the Army-Navy YMCA. His sudden death at the age of 36, in 1943, left her widowed with two children and a third on the way. So she began a pre-school in her house. Originally named the "Do-Clif-Da" Nursery School (for her three children, Dolores, Clifford and David), she operated out her home for 10 years before moving to 1420 W. 7th Street, San Pedro, where her school served thousands of children.

Passion & Interests

Nineteen years after her first husband died, Wilma married Captain Gilbert Barlow Myers in 1962. He passed away in 1985. Wilma loved her family and friends. She found joy in educating young children and seeing them grow and develop.

Death

Passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on June 6, 2008 at the age of 97.

She was survived by sister, Marybeth Dow; three children, Dolores Garren of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Clifford Dahlquist of Fall River Mills, CA and David Dahlquist of Santa Rosa, CA; six grandchildren.

And by her second marriage, four children; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service was on 13 Jun 2008, at First Presbyterian Church, 731 S. Averill Avenue, San Pedro

Donations were suggested to The U.S. Fund for UNICEF (www.unicef.org);

Providence Trinity Care Hospice, 17315 Studebaker Road, #101, Cerritos, CA 90703 (www.trinitycarehospice.org).
