Coleman (Senior Pilot), Vincezo Cutello (Italy), and Sergeant Jarcisio Cantarutti (Italy), when it was attacked by five Aviatik D.I pursuit planes of Fliegerkompagnie 74J. Bahl's aircraft was shot down by Lieutnants Roman Schmidt and Imre von Horvath near Vittorio Veneto, Italy. 1LT James L Bahl Jr. was awarded the Italian War Cross for his sacrifice and1LT Coleman was posthumously awarded the Medaglia d'Oro al Valore Militare, Italy's highest medal for leading the mission of bombers.
