Louise was born and raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago and attended University High Lab School and the University of Chicago. Married to John Davenport in Chicago on April 15, 1941, they raised their children John, Dorian, and Mark in Western Springs, Illinois. After Louise and John divorced, she moved to Whitehall, Michigan where she had spent summers throughout her life. Though not a regular church-goer, when she did attend, Louise sang with a wonderful contralto voice. She only tap danced once for her children.
