Chester P. Lorenz, 72, of 47 Whittier Ave. died at Falmouth Hospital on Cape Cod Sunday after suffering an apparent heart attack while swimming. Born in Pittsfield, son of Curt and Freda Fox Lorenz, he graduated from Pittsifled High School and served in the Army during World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield. Mr. Lorenz had retired in 1974 from the General Electric Co. as a group leader and inspector in the main plant following 34 years' service. A member of the First Baptist Church, he formerly was a deacon. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Crescent Lodge of Masons, the Exchange Club of Pittsfield, the GEAA, GE Quarter-Century Club and the GE Pensioners Club, of which he was a former treasure. He leaves his wife, the former Florence Johnson, to whom he had been married 42 years last Nov. 14; a son Howard C. Lorenz, and two grandchildren, all of Pittsfield, and a brother Clifford Lorenz of Las Vegas, Nev. Calling hours will be at the Wellington Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Crescent Lodge of Masons will conduct a memorial service there at 8. The funeral will be tomorrow morning at 11 in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Lock, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the church memorial fund in Mr. Lorenz's memory.
