DUNCAN Mildred Brown Duncan, 86, passed away June 11th, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Mildred worked as an administrative assistant for a Doctor of Psychiatry for 25 years; she taught Sunday School at Avondale Baptist Church for 50 years. She spent time to become a freelance writer and was invited by the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale to attend a workshop for writers. She contributed to the Guidepost and Christian Leader magazines as well as publishing her own book called While It Is Today. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother whose presence on this earth will be missed by those lives she touched.

Mildred is survived by her children Lee Lucente (Jack), Ann Newton and John Ernest Duncan; sister Louise Brown (Stan) McCranie; brother Vernon Brown; grandchildren April Lee Ely (Chris), David Patrick Herron, Louise Carter, Donald Duncan, Angie Taylor (Charles), Bo Ashley Duncan and Casey Duncan; great-grandchildren Matthew Lane and John Clifford Ely, Elizabeth and Jackson Taylor. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Ernest Gilbert Duncan.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 15th in Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach. A Graveside Service was held in Jacksonville Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 16th, with the Senior Pastor Ben Wallis of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville Beach officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hubbard House, Attn: Development PO Box 4909, Jacksonville, FL 32201.
