Ilo Elizabeth Abel passed away Wednesday, March 7th at Scottsdale Health Care in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born January 17, 1930 in Colesburg, Iowa to Lod and Rose Barger. When she was six years old, the family moved to Edgewood, Iowa where she attended school. After graduating from high school, she attended upper Iowa University, and then taught rural school near Edgewood.In 1950, she married Marcene (Shorty) Abel and the couple resided in Arlington, Iowa. During Marcene's tour of duty in the armed services, Ilo worked in a grocery store/meat market/café. In 1953 they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where they lived for 16 years. While there, Ilo was employed with the Prudential Insurance Company of America for 13 years working as a Section Supervisor and later as a Conference and Travel Traffic Representative. In 1965, she became totally disabled with neuritis and could no longer work.In 1969, Ilo's husband was transferred to Montevideo where she continued to make her home after his death.Although Ilo continued to suffer with neuritis, she was active in church and community. In 1975, she was healed and became more active in volunteer work. She served through the years in Women's Fellowship, was Deaconess, choir member, director, pianist, and also conducted Bible studies in her home and at other residences, and did personal counseling. She worked as a volunteer, delivering meal on wheels for several years, worked in the beauty shop at Luther Haven Nursing Home, helped with the Blood mobile and served as an election judge for the primary, general and school elections. She was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary and also a member of the "Old Hats" singing group. She attended Community Bible Church in Montevideo.Ilo is survived by one sister, Agatha Scott of Strawberry Point, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and her dear friend Dixon Smith.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one sister
