Sidney Earl BLACKFORD, 51, 210 Main Street, was dead on arrival at St. Vincent Hospital Thursday afternoon after he collapsed at Sunshine Food Market, 4650 Morningside Ave.
Mr. Blackford, a driver for All American Transport Co., was making deliveries at the market when he collapsed, according to a police report.
Dr. Thomas Coriden, Woodbury County medical examiner, said that the cause of death was a coronary thrombosis. Mr. Blackford, an armed services veteran, is survived by the widow, Leona.
Funeral services for Sidney E. BLACKFORD, 51, 210 Main Street, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The Rev. Odoric Akwick will officiate & burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Sioux Valley Barracks 1019, Veterans of WWI. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tonight at the Manning O'Toole Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bray, Bud Jones, James McSoarran, Verlyn Schuldt, Charles LINGLE & Raymond Rath.
He was born 29 July 1919, in Sioux City. He lived in Salix from 1923 - 1940 when he entered the Navy. In 1942, he was serving abroad the USS Houston when it sank & he was captured by the Japanese. He spent 22 months in prison camps & was released by the Japanese in September of 1945. He married Leona AVILLA 27 March 1963 at Dakota City, Neb. He had been a driver for All American Transport Co. for 14 years & a resident of Sioux City since 1945.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Miss Barbara & Miss Cathlee BLACKFORD of Sioux City.; a son, Steven of Fort Dodge, Iowa; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Guy BLACKFORD of Smithland; 3 sisters, Mrs. Kyle (Elizabeth) ADAMS of Sloan, Mrs. Lois GABRIELLI of Sioux City & Mrs. Nita WEIGEL of McCook Lake, SD.; a brother, Loren "Casey" of Sioux City; and a grandson.
