Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Furland, Russia, he served in the United States Navy as a Chief Carpenter's Mate on board the "USS Marblehead". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the approaches to Caimanera, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on July 26 and 27, 1898. His citation reads "Displaying heroism, Sundquist took part in the perilous work of sweeping for and disabling 27 contact mines during this period." His Medal was awarded to him on December 14, 1898.
