He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and came to Dallas with his family while he was a child.
Mr. Keese's involvement in music began during his high school years.
He performed with musical groups at Highland Park High School and a military academy. He attended Southern Methodist University but left school to pursue a career in music.
Mr. Keese, who played tenor saxophone and clarinet, toured with the Russ Morgan Orchestra and played in house bands at hotels including the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas. He also was a member of WFAA's Early Birds radio program and played in the band for one of Dinah Shore's early television shows.
Mr. Keese is survived by his wife, Robie Keese of Richardson; two sons, Barclay Keese and Donald Keese, both of Richardson; three daughters, Alexis Spyres and Alice Kolb, both of Garland, and Pam Meyer of Plano; his mother, Amy Keese of Dallas; one brother, Tom Keese of Dallas; one sister, Phyllis Webb of Houston; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
